Any former MHC student who has added a primary or secondary address in NorCal* to their Alum Directory profile automatically becomes an Active Member. However, Active Membership is not required to attend Club events, which are generally open to all alums, current students, and other MHC community members in the area unless otherwise specified.
All Active Members are encouraged, but not required, to get involved with and/or make a financial contribution to the Club. Many of our members have generously paid their dues for life, and we greatly appreciate their support!
We often collaborate on and cross-promote events with the MHC Pen Club. Some of our Bay Area alums have followed both Clubs on social media and/or added a secondary address in the Alum Directory to receive both newsletters.
*By default, this excludes alums in the Mount Holyoke Club of the Peninsula, but Pen Club alums are welcome to connect with us on social media and/or opt in to our emails by adding a secondary address in San Francisco (or any Californian city north of it).
The Club Bylaws elaborate further on membership:
Section 1. Active Member
Any former student (“Alum”) who moves into the area determined by the Association to be part of the Club’s region automatically becomes an Active Member of the Club. Active Members are eligible to vote at Club meetings as well as stand for elections.
Section 2. Associate Member
Any former or present member of the faculty or parent of a present or past student may become an Associate Member on payment of annual dues.
Section 3. Honorary Member
The Board of Directors may nominate special persons for honorary membership in the Club, and such nominees shall become Honorary Members upon their election by a majority vote of the Active Members (electronically in an asynchronous fashion or in person) at the Annual Meeting.
Section 4. Dues
Dues are set annually by the Board of Directors and approved by a majority vote of Active Members (electronically in an asynchronous fashion or in person) at the Annual Meeting. Dues are paid on a voluntary basis and used to support Club activities. The Club will accept any amount from any alum who wishes to contribute.
