Special Sneak Preview: Interactive Art Show by MHC Alum

Step right up. Step right up. Be among the first to step inside “The Human Circus”, an interactive art show by multidisciplinary artist Mona Chiang ’92. This show uses humor to examine both the oddball and the mundane behaviors that make us human. MHC alums and special guests are invited to a sneak preview the night before the show opens to the general public.Come sip wine and see wildly imaginative paintings, play with the art installations (yes, you can play with the exhibit!), and laugh. Dog friendly. We have treats!

If you’re not able to attend the special sneak preview, check out the exhibit from October 4th to November 2nd.

Mountain Day Hike + Yoga

Fall is the air! “Mountain Day” first whispered then reverberated across a crisp pre-dawn morning. Join us on a traditional fall hike beloved by the MHC community. Susan and May will host a hike up one of the most recognized landmarks in SF Bay: San Bruno Mountain. Summit Loop promises unforgettable panoramic views of the bay, ocean, downtown, and surrounds. The loop is 3.6 miles in length with anticipated completion in 2 hours.

On the morning of October 6th, meet up at 9:45 AM, San Bruno Mountain State & County Park (555 Guadalupe Canyon Pkwy, Brisbane, CA 94005), $6 parking fee. Carpooling is highly recommended and can be coordinated by organizers. Free street parking is available at Crocker Gate Trailhead (Old Guadalupe Trail, Daly City, CA 94014), which will add about a mile to the meet up spot inside the park.

Option: Bring a yoga mat for a bonus 30 minute vinyasa flow lead by Susan at trail’s end. Mats stay in the car and will be retrieved after the hike to participate.

Additional information: no dogs allowed, even on leash. Bring water and a hat, as most of the trail is open with little shade.

Founder’s Day Prospective Students Ice Cream Social

Celebrate the founding of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in November 1837 by the dedicated visionary and educator Mary Lyon! At a time when women in the U.S. were not allowed to go about without wearing a bonnet or cap, our founder spent years doggedly fundraising — and raising eyebrows — in order to establish a financially sustainable institution of higher education for women. A most beloved tradition of Mount Holyoke College is to gather over ice cream and raise our spoons in honor of the bravery and vision of our founder.

The Mount Holyoke Clubs of the Peninsula and Northern California invite alums and prospective students to join us at our annual Founder’s Day Prospective Students Ice Cream Social. Light refreshments and sweet treats will be served at the home of Beth S. ’85 in Palo Alto. Alums are asked to bring a pint of their favorite ice cream to share. Recent alums and current students are particularly encouraged to attend and share perspectives on the college and favorite memories. If you know of any high school students in 10th through 12th grade who may be interested in applying to MHC, please invite them to this event!
