Dear fellow alums,
Thank you to those of you who joined us this past weekend to celebrate the Year of the Tiger and make Vietnamese-style deep-fried spring rolls with Sarah Lau ’07. Also, we were thrilled so many of you tuned in for Barbara Creed’s presentation on January 13th about understanding the work of the Supreme Court. A special thanks to the MHC Club of Princeton, NJ, for co-hosting this informative and important discussion with us.
We started up our monthly mentorship group again with a deep discussion about wellness and self-care. This month’s meeting (tonight!—register here) will focus on connections. Our NorCal book club, where we read and discuss books by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) authors, kicked off 2022 with a lively discussion of Namwali Serpell’s incredible debut novel The Old Drift. Join us on February 23rd to discuss Afterlife by Julia Alvarez.
Stay tuned for more upcoming events including a Trail Ride at Folger Stables in Woodside with the Club of the Peninsula, a virtual Holistic Self-Care workshop, and a special event for Alums of Color coming in April 2022.
Bylaws Update & Discussion Meeting
For the first time since the 1970s, the NorCal Club has updated its Bylaws and Mission Statement. Please feel free to look them over and share any thoughts with the Club via email and/or attend a Bylaws discussion meeting on February 15th (register here). We’re looking forward to finalizing and voting on our new Bylaws in Spring 2022.
Lifetime Members
The NorCal Club would like to acknowledge our newest Lifetime Member and the first of 2022: Patty Robertson ’72. Thank you for your generous donation, and for your continued support of the NorCal Club! If any other alums would like to become Lifetime Members, we’d love to have you.
You can become one or pay membership dues for the 2021-2022 year here: MHC Club of Northern CA Membership Dues. If you prefer to pay by check, please email us. If your company offers corporate matching or incentives for volunteering or being a part of a non-profit organization, we are happy to work with them to find ways to financially support our Club.
Join the Board
We want you! For those interested in being more involved with the Club, please consider joining our fantastic board. We welcome alums from our entire Northern California region, not just the Bay Area. Our Board meetings are via Zoom even in non-pandemic times, so location truly doesn’t matter. We would love to have representation from throughout our incredibly large region!
We are especially looking for a person or two to fill our Communications Chair(s) position. If you are a savvy social media maven, can write compelling newsletters, want to build community with local alums, and stay connected to the College, this is a great role for you.
The next term begins July 1, 2022. Please peruse the board descriptions and if any open positions spark your interest, reach out to us by email or fill out this Statement of Interest. We’re always looking for fresh perspectives and look forward to hearing from you.
Let’s Connect
We aim to support alums in Northern California by cultivating a community that is connected, informed, and involved in the life and work of the College. As we continue planning for 2022, please share with us what types of events, programs, and resources may best support you at this time or any which you may wish to offer. Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated and welcomed. Email us or fill out this form to get started.
Our very best wishes,
– The Board
